Winter’s Final Hoorah?

tree covered in snow
This is what we woke up to the morning of April 21, 2021.

I’m sure you have your own set of sayings to describe the weather in your part of the world. Here in Ohio, we say: “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes. It’ll change.”

Today is April 26, 2021. Our high temperature for today is expected to be 70 degrees Fahrenheit (that’s about 21 degrees Celsius). But less than a week ago, we woke up to two to three inches of snow. We knew it was coming, but it was still a shock to turn the corner from the basement stairs and see the winter wonderland that greeted us that morning.

Now, for anyone who’s counting, last week’s snowfall was the third after the forsythia bloomed (My mom swore by the old wives’ tale about there being three snows after the forsythia blooms in the spring). The first two weren’t anything to write home about, but that third one was a doozy. I guess third time is a charm!

Not only was it a lot of snow, but it was beautiful, as well. I was able to get out and snap a few photos. Here are just a few:

snow-covered kayaks
Our kayaks got a little chilly resting against the deck.
snowy blossoms
The blossoms on our flowering pear trees were smothered.
lilac blossoms
The blossoms on our lilac bush were nestled in a bed of snow.
along the field
The fencerow along the field that leads to the creek looked beautiful.
pine tree branch
The snow on the long arm of this branch points across the field next to our house.
snow covered bird feeder
The poor birds had to dig deep for their meals this day. No worries. The snow was almost all gone by the end of the day.
grape hyacinths
Grape hyacinths are used to peaking through a spring snow.
shriveled dandelion
This dandelion was in full bloom the day before the snow.
sun peaks through
Even though it was cold enough to snow, the sun was out all day, turning our property, and that all around us, into a winter wonderland!

I hope you enjoyed this photo album of the snow that fell in central Ohio last week. It was beautiful, but I’m glad it only lasted through the day. I’m ready for spring and summer!

Until next week,
